NIGHT WEANING

Jenna has been breast fed on demand from birth. My goal was to breast feed until she turns 1. But there was this swine flu going around and under my paedtrician advice i decided to continue nursing... i decided i will stop when the fall season is over.. i started cutting the morning feed but she used to cry so much i gave in and fed her as usual...But last week i decided that if i dont start weaning now its going to be difficult later so i decided i will wean her in the night which is very difficult moreover i wanted to get a good night sleep too.. sometimes she wakes up so many times and will go back to sleep only until i feed her.. so last friday i started, the first day was pretty bad,, she woke up every 5 mins and was crying to be fed.. the second day was worse.. she was crying continuously and i cried too ,third day got a lil better... everytime she wakes up i would say we will feed only when Mr Sun comes up (i got this from the Dr. Sears website) and the fourth day she never woke up she slept continuously and didnt wake up inbetween and if she did i just had to pat her and she would go right back to sleep... now i'm down to 3 feeds... one in the morning ,noon and just before to bed. i will cut back the rest of the feed one at a time now since the difficult night weaning is over. The best part of the whole thing is that i no longer put her to sleep, its daddy who does the job because if im there she wants to be nursed again.... Nursing has been a wonderful experience and im happy that God gave me this wonderful opportunity to feed my daughter..more than all the benefits of breast milk its the lovely bonding we share that im going to miss . But I'm happy and proud that i nursed my daughter even after all the negativity i was receiving from family and friends for nursing for more than year.... at the end of the day all that matters to me is my baby is happy and healthy.

  1. Congrats Athika on achieving the good night sleep!Kudos for following through on the weaning! It takes a lot of courage for a mom to do it! and Kudos for nursing her till now too. It's the closest bonding ever and not all moms are fortunate enough to do it. You are blessed to be able to nurse her so far .Enjoy your journey as many surprises await u!

  2. I'm nursing too, and hope to do so for at least the first year, if not longer. Good job at weaning the night time sleep, I'm sure that must have been so hard on you. She's a lucky little girl to have such a devoted mommy who stuck nursing during some negative commenters, good job!

  4. Hi there!i don know you,but wud want to tell u something,as i am a mother myself.i have been reading your blog right from the day u started blogging and have found it nice and charming, but this post of yours has disturbed me and turned me off..how cud u write on breast feed?its something private dat exists just between a mommy and her baby, and how can u not have a problem wit 101 people across the globe reading it?i understand that u want to share with the whole world ur journey of motherhood, but sumthing about delivery(which u wrote on previously)and now breast feed in public is something atrocious..as i am a mother myself, dont u think its really pathetic to write on such personal issues??

  5. To Anonymous, Hi
Not meaning to offend you in any way, but would like to defend this young mother. If you see the title of her blog which is a journey of motherhood and therefore it would seem obvious to write everything that is to do with being a mother. And if you have read closely, there are no gory or vulgar details at all unlike the many shows on national television except for her sharing her feelings of love and bonding. And of course she has written nothing that a new mother or any mother would not experience as a mom .I know personally of mothers who have expressed their appreciation to this mom for her posts. This is a sort of forum for these moms to share their motherhood experiences and they should be allowed to do so. One more thing, people read what they want. Nobody is forced to do so.So please, if you have nice comments please do post but if you have nothing nice to say please don't post negativity.

  8. Hey Anonymous! Hope you are reading all of this.
Athika posting about her life concerning whatever it is does not have to be your bother! I dont think your opinions are needed n will be taken into consideration. She is sharing all of this for her family n friends to be updated with things! its not necessary for you to post your comments, keep that talk for yourself! If you think breast feeding is dirty to be told to your loved ones, i doubt you are a mother?!?!?
